My name is Kurt Killen, site Owner and former Painter. The picture shown is one of the last jobs I completed before switching to Instructing new Painters. It really shows how far we progressed. We sprayed a $500 a pail clear based elastomeric coating, using an 80 foot boom lift, in November, for Best Buy no less. In fact we completed 5 stores. Just saying!
In 13 years we have painted over 880 000 square feet of homes and businesses, with 50% of those jobs coming from referral. We have painted hundreds of homes with our Professional Painters and a Designers touch.
Seems pretty trivial doesn’t it. I mean I’m a painter – then paint. And 880 000 square feet isn’t that much really. I’d say it was part time from a professional’s stand point. But considering I’d had multiple concussions and crippling mental illness, I feel that I did pretty good.
In fact, for my first business I’d say I became an expert at painting and managing my many personal issues. I painted to a point where I could feel satisfied that I had put food on my table and beer in my belly. I’m now confident I can teach others with the same issues to manage their head trash, find work, complete that work, get paid and repeat the cycle as often as they need. In fact this will be the only time, for your sake, that I say this. I am the best combination Illness Manager/Painting Contractor/Small Business Person on the planet. If I’m wrong I’ll drink a cheap beer.
I don’t say that for my benefit. If you landed here and decide to explore what we are all about. It’s really pretty simple. If you have concussions or mental illness, perhaps you cannot focus on things. Fuzzy brained. Dizzy. You have symptoms in bundles. You may be broke or are heading that way. You have trust issues for various reasons. And you don’t know what you can do for work.
If you’re getting upset at deciding what you are capable of doing let me say this. What if you could combine your health therapy, work for rent money, an amazing career spanning 3 or more years and preparation for your next big thing all into one. With painting, you can have a relationship, kids, bills, better health, a vehicle, a cell phone, improved self esteem, a growing body of work from jobs completed and a small business all your own.
Too much? Well. I did the impossible. And I took notes. And when it became time to move on to something else, supporting others became the ideal plan for me. Maybe it will be for you also.
Cheers.
