STOP DOING THESE THINGS IMMMEDIATELY
~~brain injured, mentally ill or Ptsd sufferers~~
What’s up guys. It’s Kurt Killen from PainttoSafety.com. Brain injured or mentally ill including Ptsd, if you are looking farther down the road than even one day, please stop. If you are truly enduring these issues you need to take life one day at a time.
People who promote 2-year college diplomas or 4-year university degrees and doing any old thing that you desire, when the statistics do not even support healthy people in success, listen to me. You have to STOP. Debt from schooling is not the answer.
The other situation that causes distress is entry level jobs. It was so difficult to earn over $13 per hour at 17yo and then earn $8 per hour when you are 26yo because of an illness. It can be devastating when you cannot pay your bills. Your capacity isn’t there to work long hours.
But it definitely is for project work! The project work that we train you for builds strength, endurance and stamina. If you can complete a project as well as anyone else, shouldn’t you get compensated as much as anyone else?? It works off the premise that I’m as good once as I ever was! Just don’t bite off more than you can chew.
Working a low paying job or becoming a professional student is so absolutely backward to reaching any reality of healthcare. You are always going to be fighting upstream. When your bills aren’t getting paid because of this situation you will inevitably start sliding backwards. Worse yet, if you take a loan for a car or a credit card you can get so stuck in a cycle that could take forever to get out of. It robs you of your dignity and your possibilities. This cycle may force you to grow but is it really the healthiest way to go about it?
If you have clinical depression, that according to some requires downtime of 2.5 hours per day, are you operating at your best when working overwhelms you? Is it any fun?
It can affect your nutrition levels when don’t have sufficient income. You eat poorly on a limited budget. Sleeping patterns can be disrupted and that affects how much you can work.
You may need escapes of any manner of possibilities, all of which cost you money that you simply do not have. This includes gaming, marijuana, alcohol, gambling, and social media.
Look I’m not saying don’t go to school. Or don’t work at a job to make ends meet. But what would an ideal thriving recovery look like? After what I have been through – I’m helping you! Nobody should have to put in double the work effort for insufficient pay.
How would you manage your health if your bills were paid? With way more compassion than you do now, I’ll wager. When 27% of people actually find work in their field, the working poor have mental illness and the system cannot sustain them, is it any wonder that we cannot meet standard poverty guidelines?
I had one person comment there is nothing we teach that someone cannot learn on their own. Seriously? Are you our of your mind? If you had the ability to take someone from poverty, that has a brain injury, a mental illness or Ptsd, without understanding every single dynamic involved with issues such as memory, capacity, discomfort, fogginess, past history, possible addictions, trauma and likes or dislikes with a mere single video without putting in the work, then go right ahead. Painting may be the vehicle, but I didn’t choose it. A small business may be the best answer but it is not always easy. And expert coping and functioning skills like we have are planets away more than mere spilled paint.
We have developed the whole system from – can I do this? To a fundamental strategic routine to grow off of and build on. All the way to whatever level of painting you want for sure, but we actually stress growing to where you know more, can do more and see more so you can choose to do what suits you in the larger world. With the strength to do so. A vision, something personal that pulls you and serves others instead of blithely commenting from your sofa.
We provide value by keeping our system as simple as possible for people in need to get into this and make what we have ($$$) on a couple projects. This allows for some real planning towards their hopes and dreams. That is the approach that is different with us. We assume if you can paint, that you are worth what anyone else charges for that. Equality. We also know what it means to have downtime to rest instead of long hours or part time jobs that do not pay enough. We know this because we had to do it. Something that is your very own has a tremendous impact on your confidence. With confidence you can do anything, without it you can hardly do anything. That is self-respect and self-worth even.
One example of what we offer is our Workshop Video ‘Getting off the couch, doing something & committing to yourself’. It is a quick 26 minutes of taking someone who may have completely given up and saying to their family member, hold on a minute, there has to be some accountability here. We are each given a life. Some times it is the short end of the stick but if we are going to make something of the hand we are dealt, how can we do that exactly? What does success look like to an injured or ill person? What can you do? How do we manage the ‘I don’t want to’ from the ‘I can’t do it right now?’ Once we have the buy in for ‘I’ll attempt it’ it needs to be simple and clear. It needs to be cool. It needs to be good, better and best all rolled into one. This is our AHA moment folks. The AHA is that a mere couple hours ago I was at I can do nothing to I can do this and I can do it well. It is transformative.
Sometimes when a win is having a shower or getting out of bed after 4 days, we have to take it very slow to begin with. We also have to establish a relationship with people. It does nobody any good to engage with someone who is manipulative or addicted and has no intention of following through with us. There are many details to manage.
If you are truly committed to a thriving recovery despite your injury or illness, currently we have our ‘Guide to a Living Wage’ eBook promotion. You can purchase it here and it includes the Workshop Video inside it. It is a small way you can support us in helping more people. We pack as much value in as we can so you can evaluate us. We intend to help people for a while at PainttoSafety.com. But you have to click and get it. We cannot do it for you.
There is nothing out there like us. Imagine meeting someone who has done what you need to do. Someone who went beyond mere painting rooms with the sole intention of providing value and supports to you and your family dealing with these very difficult issues. What we do here works but it takes effort on your part. GET THE GUIDE. It can literally change your life, like your illness or injury said it would do. Except we aim on taking you back to where you belong.
