So Covid 19 is testing the water of what some call the need for a Universal Basic Income. I was against this in the beginning because it was a UN Socialist Agenda item that seriously bothered me. Combine it with the massive amounts of debt that we are incurring, at least in Canada anyway and the whole idea is absolute unsustainable.
As a disabled Painting Contractor let me say this, work is essentially plentiful once you know where and how to find it. That said our incomes, the brain injured, mentally ill and those with Ptsd, along with our physically disabled friends is in the lowest quartile of the economy. Some even have disability income as well.
A hybrid model that pairs lower quartile earners with some disability income could raise them to our national standard, about $41k. I understand that is high even among the G7 but the opportunity it affords those with dreams to begin businesses or educate themselves is tremendous. Currently disabled are usually sidelined from the economy.
I also have some caveats from our universal healthcare. Universal anything seems to equal paying way more than business can provide it for. So universal basic income should be tempered with moderate mandates.
Cheers.
